Big deal for Indian Government: It’s a Yes by Manohar Parikar to buy five S-400 air defence systems

Ahead of Prime Minister’s visit to Russia, today Defence acquisition council (defence Ministry’s top acquisition council) has cleared the purchase of five advanced Russian S-400 Triumf air defence missile systems worth Rs. 39000 Crore. The deal was approved on Thursday. And Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

These missile systems are capable of destroying airborne targets at a range of up to 400 Km. And the purchase of these missiles will enhance the defence National Air defence Capacity. And will help India to secure borders with Pakistan and China.

It is expected that the deal will be signed during Narendra Modi’s Visit to Moscow on Dec. 24-25.  If this happens, India will be the second Country after China to buy these missiles. And this deal could be considered as one of the  biggest achievements of Narendra Modi’s Government.
