On the occasion of Maha Shivaratri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday unveiled the 112 feet tall bust of Adiyogi, the first yoga guru at the programme organised by isha foundation.

Extolling the ancient Indian discipline of Yoga, PM Modi highlighted the essence of Yoga and how ” “practising Yoga, a spirit of oneness is created. Oneness of mind, body and the intellect, oneness with our families and with the society we live in, with fellow humans and with birds, animals and trees.”

He also termed unity in diversity as the speciality and strength of the Indian culture.

Pm Modi said Yoga could be the panacea for lifestyle diseases, stress and addiction. “Lifestyle-related ailments, stress related diseases are becoming more and more common. It gives me immense sadness, one that I cannot describe in words when I read about people taking to substance abuse and alcohol because they are not at peace with themselves, he said.

“Today, the whole world wants peace, not just peace from wars and conflict but peace of the mind. The burden of stress takes a heavy toll and one of the sharpest weapons to overcome stress is Yoga,” he added.

Modi even suggested that Yoga could be crucial for world peace.
“The whole world wants peace, not just peace from wars and conflict but peace of the mind, and for that we have Yoga,” he said.

“Through Yoga let us create a new ‘Yuga’ of togetherness and harmony. This will benefit the entire humankind, PM Modi said.

Founder of Isha Foundation, Jaggi Vasudev, said the bust of ‘Adiyogi’ was built in eight months. He also lauded PM Modi for practising Yoga.
