The national anthem must be played in all cinemas before movie screenings and all exits will be shut during that time, the Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday. SC also said that everyone present must stand and pay respect to it.
A bench of justices Dipak Misra and Amitava Roy said that citizen should take pride in the national anthem and they should be taught how to sing the national anthem.
The national anthem is already compulsory before movies in some states such as Maharashtra.
The court also said that the along with the anthem the national flag should also be shown on the movie screen.
“There should not be any dramatization while singing and playing the national anthem and the anthem must not be printed on an ‘undesirable place’ either,” added the Court.
