Shashi Tharoor had to face a lot of criticism for comparing Kanhaiya Kumar with Freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. At JNU during his 43-minute long speech, he said: “Bhagat Singh was the Kanhaiya Kumar of his time.” And this statement by Shashi Tharoor drew criticism for him.
Yesterday, Shashi Tharoor tried to clarify his statement. He said that it was not his intention to equate Kanhaiya Kumar with Bhagat Singh.
“It was a girl in the audience (at JNU) who mentioned Bhagat Singh, and I said that Bhagat Singh was a Kanhaiya by which I meant he was a young man in his twenties with Marxist ideas and beliefs who had a great passion for the motherland and Kanhaiya had the same qualities …it’s nothing more than that,” Mr Tharoor, a parliamentarian from Kerala, said to reporters.”
But Sudhir Chaudhary of Zee News in DNA had exposed the real Intention of Shashi Tharoor. Sudhir Chaudhary in DNA said: “If it was not Tharoor’s intention to take the name of Bhagat Singh, then he should have stopped the girl who had taken name of Bhagat Singh. But, instead of stopping her, Shashi Tharoor compared Bhagat Singh with Kanhaiya Kumar.”
