Kannada Actor-Politician Ramya who is facing sedition charges for Pro-Pak comment has refused to apologise for her comment praising Pakistan.
“I will not apologise as I have done nothing wrong. I am entitled to my views and that is what democracy is about,” alleging that sedition laws are misused against “anybody and everybody,” reports NDTV.
She also said “Saying sorry is the easiest thing for me. But if I do in this case, the purpose is lost. Right now I really need to stand up for myself…What I said is harmless”.
Ramya after visiting Pakistan to attend the SAARC meeting of young parliamentarians had praised people of Pakistan for their hospitality.
“Pakistan is not hell. People, there are just like us. They treated us very well,” said Ramya. And it was believed that this statement by Ramya was a direct response to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s statement in which he said: “Going to Pakistan and going to hell is the same thing.”
To this Pro-Pak comment by Ramya, A Karnataka lawyer has lodged a complaint of sedition against her. The hearing of the case is on 27 August.
